Sometime tonight Big John and I are going to see Saw 2. Anyone that wants to come along can call me after noon.

Well after.

Like 3ish.

Some people have complained about the original Saw, which came out last Halloween, but I loved it. Sure, it had a few continuity errors and a couple characters do something incredibly stupid at one point (trying not to give anything away here) but it was a damn solid flick.

This brings up a gripe of mine though. Why the FUCK don't scary movies come out around Halloween? Saw did, and so is Saw 2, but most horror films come out in the summer anymore. Is this because the audiences are bigger in the summer? Or is it because the Hallmark/WalMart people are trying to homogenize Halloween for mass consumption?

Well fuck 'em. Halloween should remain the happy-go-lucky, devil-worship fest it was born as.

Fuckin' Christians...

Anyways, I am a little worried about Saw 2. Like I said, the first one was great, but it was an independent film and therefore free of the suffocating constraints of the studio system. Remember the Blair Witch Project? It was an independent film, and like Saw it made money so a sequel was made. When sequels are made the studios go in to make sure that the people with the creative vision that made the original film don't "screw up" the sequel. The problem is studio people don't know dick about making movies which is why sequels get worse and worse as they go.

Which is really saying something in the case of the Blair Witch Project since I thought the first one was damn near unwatchable. Serriously, that movie licked balls.

So have the studio lackeys screwed up Saw 2? So far the reviews seem pretty positive. Then again the reviews for "The Island" were good too and we all know how quickly that movie went away...

Saw 2 was done by Twisted Pictures, the same people that made the first one, so that's a good sign. Hard to tell who owns them now though.

Anyways, we're gonna go watch it and if you want to come along then call me or Big John and get the details. And if you haven't seen the first one then go see it NOW.

Oh, one last thing. I watched the "Special Edition" Saw they just released and as far as I could tell they only changed one scene and they didn't even change it that much. It was the last scene and it just had more blood. That's it. If you already own a copy of the first one then you don't need the Special Edition. Not unless you're REALLY into the special features, and even then they're kinda interesting but nothing major.
