Yeah, I know, I haven’t posted in a while. There just hasn’t been a lot to post about. I got the car checked and the frame is Ok. I went to the doctor and I’m Ok, or at least as close to Ok as possible given the circumstances, and I had another doctor’s appointment tomorrow to determine my eligibility for supplemental Social Security. I guess it went ok. I won’t know for a while.
Basically I’ve just been waiting for something to happen that’s worth posting about.
So I saw the new Star Wars on Wednesday. I wanted to see it; I just hadn’t made plans to see it on it’s opening day. Well I guess it’s true what they say about destiny. With the viewing of this film I have now seen every Star Wars film in the theater, even the special edition versions.
It was definitely the best of the prequels. I’m sure that has a lot to do with its similarities to The Empire Strikes Back. My complaints are negligible, but they’re still there. I’ll try to get through them without any outright spoilers, but I can’t guarantee it. You’ve been warned.
First complaint, and this goes for all three prequels, is they tie into the other three films a little too much. For instance: Vader built 3-P0? What the fuck? Also, you may have heard that Chewbacca is in the newest one. Well he is, for like ten seconds. Just long enough for Yoda to give him a “I’ll miss you most of all Scarecrow” line. I shit you not, it was like that scene in the end of Return of the King where it looked like Frodo and Sam were gonna make out.
Second, The pace was wayyyyyyyy faster than the last two. There’s actually so much going on so fast in most of the third movie it’s hard to keep up while the second one was like watching fucking C-span. Actually, scratch that, C-span has way more romantic chemistry than Episode 2 did. But some of the stuff that got shoe-horned into Episode 3 could have been blended into Episode 2 so 2 could have had something actually happen and give us a chance to dwell for a second on some of the cool shit that raced by in 3.
That’s pretty much it for complaints. Overall this movie was pretty damn good. The characters were used well and the plotlines tied up better than I thought they were going to. Go see it.
I’ll write more later.
